AMC and Disney end dispute and resume advanced ticket sales for Iron Man 3

AMC and Disney end dispute header

Few weeks ago we reported that AMC, one of the biggest theater chains in the US, was refusing to put Iron Man 3 tickets on advance sale because of a dispute with Disney.  Disney wanted to leverage the film in order to renegotiate the studio’s future terms with the chains beginning with Iron Man 3. Regal and Carmike have come to terms last Friday, but AMC was the last big elephant in the room still holding out. All along distributors and exhibitors expected a resolution to the impasse, but the negotiations with AMC really went down to the wire. Today, a resolution has been agreed upon and advanced ticket sales have finally resumed throughout all theater chains across North America.

AMC has released a statement saying: “Iron Man 3 tickets are now on sale and we’re excited to welcome guests to the 9 PM debut and Marvel’s Iron Man Marathon at AMC, both on May 2. We thank our partners at Disney for working with us to achieve economical terms so we can present our guests with one of the biggest blockbusters of 2013 and solidly kick off the summer movie season.”

Along with AMC, Regal has released a similar statement saying: “Regal has Iron Man 3! After some extensive talks with Disney, we’re glad to say that Tony Stark will definitely be in our theatres for Iron Man 3. We’ve got Fandango working overtime right now to place tickets back on sale at all Regal Cinemas, United Artists and Edwards Theatres.”

With Iron Man 3 predicted to make $160 million in its opening weekend, one can speculate really just how much money Iron Man 3 would’ve made if there wasn’t a dispute between Disney and the big name theater chains. Either way, Iron Man 3 will get its cash and its glowing 92% on Rotten Tomatoes will surely keep the film at the #1 spot for several weeks.

Iron Man 3 unibeams into theaters May 3rd.
