[WARNING! SPOILERS]

The much anticipated game Injustice: Gods Among Us has had a tidbit of information released regarding the beloved Batman character, Nightwing. Instead it is said that Dick Grayson has been killed by the new Nightwing who is revealed as… Well let’s give some backstory first.

Most of you who are going to be playing the game probably had no idea that DC released a comic book series prequel to Injustice to give a backstory as to why the heroes are fighting one another, and I must say that the story arc is incredible and more violent than the normal DC universe stepping near the Marvel realm and even creating a similar Civil War.

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

The comic book starts out with Lois telling Superman she is pregnant, exciting him like never before.  She leaves off following a hot tip about a local bribe going on and Superman goes to talk to Batman.  Batman being the detective, he knows Lois is pregnant and is then asked to be the godfather; meanwhile Joker kidnaps Lois and kills Jimmy Olson.  What Joker does next is so well thought out, and so easy which he mentions, I am surprised it hasn’t been done before. He used the Scarecrow’s fear toxin to cause Superman to kill Lois Lane and set off a nuclear bomb destroying Metropolis, which is followed by Superman killing the Joker.  What ensues is a police-like action of Superman invading foreign soil with the help and endorsement of Wonder Woman and his fellow Justice League members outlawing all fighting and war.  Batman is the only one who says he does not agree while Nightwing, and Robin watches from above as he argues with Superman. Batman knows where this is going while the President of the US tries to take out Superman by kidnapping his parents and destroying his home in Smallville.

When Aquaman steps up against the Justice League, Superman, Green Lantern, and Shazam lift Atlantis out of the sea and place it in the hottest desert in the world making Aquaman agree to peace, but says he is also aware of what Superman is going to do. Wonder Woman then mentions that Green Lantern and Shazam are uncomfortable with what Superman had them do and begin to see the alliances forming and teams dividing.

As many of you know Damian is the current Robin, having followed in his father’s footsteps and acting as his sidekick. In the New 52 he is a stubborn and hardheaded and follows Dick Grayson when he becomes the new Batman while Bruce Wayne is dead. But in this universe it is mentioned that DAMIAN is the new Nightwing having killed his predecessor and former teacher Dick Grayson.

Dick Grayson is one of my favorite characters in the DC universe and I do believe he is underrated. He took over Batman’s job, took care of the Robin’s, mentored them, and never asked for a thanks or reward. Damian is awesome too and people are upset that Damian was able to kill Nightwing, so let’s look at the facts.

This takes place 5 years after the events I mentioned, where before Damian was between 10 and 12 years old and is now 15 to 17 years old.  He has been trained by the League of Assassins since birth, is a near genius, and has been trained by Batman and both Robins, how can he not be the more supreme fighter with years of experience.

Dick Grayson’s body is in peak condition and having been trained by Batman, has a unique set of abilities that have turned him into the ass-kicking hero that he is and has experience on his side.

Now why would Damian win? if Damian endorses Superman’s tactics and is willing to kill, he won’t hold back in a fight and has probably been informed of weaknesses by Superman’s Justice League.  Dick Grayson looks at Damian like a brother and has never crossed the threshold of killing, meaning he would hold back in a fight to not kill Damian.  This is what gives Damian the edge to win in a fight to the death against Dick Grayson, allowing him to take over the helm as Nightwing.
