Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson talks about possible Fast and Furious spin-offs and wanting to be in Star Wars

Dwayne Johnson has been quite busy lately, with G.I. Joe Retaliation (releasing this Thursday) as well as three other movies (Snitch, Pain and Gain, Fast Six) releasing this year. Obviously out of the four films he’s set to star in, Fast Six would have to be the biggest of them all. In recent interviews with both Empire and Cinema Blend, Dwayne delves into the possibility of a spin-off from Fast and Furious as well as wanting to be in Star Wars.

Justin Lin has done a great job with the 3 recent Fast and Furious films, crafting an expansive world for the many characters of the franchise to exist in. This brings on notions of possible spin-offs for certain characters. In speaking with Empire, Dwayne stated the possibility of a Hobbs spin-off, but would not happen until after Fast and the Furious 7. In a recent interview with Cinema Blend, he had this to say:

I don’t know. I think that’s one way to look at it. But I think, too, if you’re looking to expand and be creative I think it could possibly work. We’ve talked about that, by the way. We’ve talked about spinning that character off. That’s a character that people have really enjoyed seeing. I think it could work. I think though too, let’s wait and see how Fast Six does. It looks as though a lot of people are going to like it. I was excited to make it. With Luke Hobbs it feels like there might be one more. There’s one more Butch and Sundance journey to go on with Luke and Dom.

I think it would be very interesting to see a Luke Hobbs spin-off, not too mention having the possibility of cameo roles from major existing cast members. But that’s not the only thing Dwayne has his eyes set on. In the same interview, he was asked what other franchises he would be interested in. He responded with:

Oh easily. Star Wars. And that’s not to say that they need it. Obviously they’re doing very well. And J.J. [Abrams] is just gonna crush it. I’m so excited. There’s a guy, by the way, who’s not just a brilliant director, but honors and respects mythology. You’ve seen that with Star Trek and you’re going to see that with Star Wars. I’m very excited about that.

The Rock in Star Wars? That would be pretty awesome to see. So now the question would be, what character would he portray? I think the only character type that would fit him would be a bounty hunter. Either that or Lando’s son. If he was to end up in Star Wars, who would you like to see him as? What other film franchises would you like to see him star in?
