Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag introduces Edward Kenway and new information announced

Edward Kenway Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag

We’ve got some new information for Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag for you today. The main character is confirmed to be Edward Kenway, a brash and rebellious pirate, trained by Assassins. If you were disappointed with Connor’s personality, then you might enjoy Edward, since he’s going to be charismatic (he is a pirate after all). He’s a former privateer for the Royal Navy who has now turned to piracy. You’ll get to meet popular pirates including Blackbeard and Charles Vane, and the game will take place in 1715, the Golden Age of Piracy.

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag has been in development for two years. Then again, Assassin’s Creed III also had a 2-year development cycle, and the game is filled with glitches. Ubisoft Montreal will be developing with help from Ubisoft studios in Annecy, Bucharest, Kiev, Quebec, Singapore and Sofia.

We’ve got two videos for you today. The first one features Edward Kenway dispatching his enemies via the Animus, and the second trailer is the official high-def trailer featuring Blackbeard telling the tale of Edward Kenway.

And here’s the official high-def trailer.

PlayStation 3 and 4 users will be able to download a 60-minute additional DLC after the game’s launch. And pre-orders from GameStop will net you a Limited Edition collectible poster (while supplies last) featuring artwork by Todd McFarlane.

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag will be out on October 29, 2013, for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U. It will also be available for PlayStation 4, PC and other next generation consoles (Xbox 720, anyone?).
