IPL6 Cancellation: No comment from IGN and IPL

The IGN ProLeague 6 event scheduled for March 28th through 31st at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas will be canceled. Why? Well IGN and IPL have refused to comment on the situation thus far.

The event was to feature headlining competitions in Starcraft 2 and upcoming expansion Heart of the Swarm, League of Legends, and Ubisoft’s Shootmania Storm.

With Capcom’s recent entry to IPL, many expected the events to go through without a hitch. John Bain “Totalbiscuit” commented on the airfare and hotel situations not being as horrible as they could have been due to the flexibility of a certain airline many egame competitors have been using.

Could it be that this was a hotel complication? Is there also a possibility that that this could effect future IPLs in Las Vegas? We eagerly await on any comment for the current situation.

Rod Breslau of Gamespot reports:

Major League Gaming CEO Sundance DiGiovanni has already offered discounted tickets to the MLG Dallas event to those who purchased spectator passes for IPL6.

IPL6’s expected cancellation comes shortly after the announcement of Ziff Davis parent company J2 Global’s purchase of IGN.

An internal memo by Ziff Davis CEO Vivek Shah, posted on Polygon, said the company was looking for active buyers of IPL. “IGN’s role going forward will be to broadcast and cover a variety of eSports events,” said Shah.
