Updated: Simon Pegg says J.J. Abrams will direct Star Trek 3?
UPDATE: Simon Pegg posted on his official twitter account that he does not know for sure whether or not J.J. Abrams will return for the next Star Trek film.
Just to be clear, contrary to reports in the press, I have no idea whether or not JJ will helm Star Trek 3.
Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble. 🙁
Ever since J.J. Abrams signed on to direct Star Wars: Episode VII, many Star Trek fans have been fearing that he will now exit the franchise. Paramount’s head honcho confirmed last month that J.J. Abrams is contractually obligated to produce another Star Trek film as well as another Mission: Impossible. However, he did not say whether or not he would return as director.
Rumors have been stirring that J.J. may pass the director chair to someone else much like how he did with Brad Bird and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Recently, Simon Pegg revealed in an interview that J.J. will in fact return as the director for Star Trek 3.
“Interviewer: If J.J. Abrams doesn’t do Star Trek 3 do you have another director in mind?
Simon Pegg: He will do Star Trek 3.”
A little short, I know. It’s hard to not take Pegg’s word, seeing as he is a well known friend of J.J. outside of their work. Should we take his word or is it still to early to tell?
