This is quite possibly the weirdest rumor I have heard coming out the Amazing Spider-Man 2 camp. The Hollywood Reporter is saying that actor Paul Giamiatti is currently in negotiations to play Rhino in the upcoming Spider-Man sequel. If this is true than that mean Giamatti may be joining Jamie Foxx, who has been rumored to be in negotiations for the role as Electro and there’s still that mystery person that appeared at the end of the credits for the first film.
Oddly enough, it was in early 2011 that Paul Giamatti revealed to ShowbizSpy that it was his dream role to play the villain in a Spider-Man movie and that he has long been a fan of the character.
“I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid. It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,’ but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me.
“If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.”
Now, I know they say never judge a book by its cover, but when I look at Paul Giamatti nothing screams Rhino. When I think Rhino I think of an unstoppable force with the same size, stature and presence as say The Hulk or The Juggernaut. Just a giant beast of a man. I don’t see that when I think Paul Giamatti. I think Pig Vomit from the Howard Stern film Private Parts. Remember, Pig Vomit? Then again, we were all wrong when judging Heath Ledger before The Dark Knight. Paul is great actor, so who knows?
