Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen to appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past

It has been announced that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are set to appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The announcement was tweeted by Bryan Singer, who was responsible for X-Men 1 & 2 (Woohoo!). He was also responsible for Superman Returns with Brandon Routh (Ugh).

“I’d like to officially welcome back James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult to X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Also thrilled to announce Sir Ian Mckellen and Sir Patrick Stewart.”

I still don’t know how I feel about the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past film. In the comic, the story took place in the present and featured a future Kitty Pryde warning the present-day team that if they fail to prevent an assassination, the future will be a nightmare for mutants.

Since the film is a sequel to X-Men: First Class, the continuity will again be all over the place. What’s even more confusing is that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are now confirmed to return as Professor X and Magneto. Will their characters be a part of the alternate future, or is the movie going to count the story of X-Men 3 as canon.
