Dralion Cirque Du Soleil review

Dralion (pronounced “Dra-lee-on”) is my first Cirque Du Soleil show, and I have to say that it was quite amazing. Videos you’ve seen online or pictures won’t do it any justice. This particular show is running at Long Beach until November 4th, but it does have other locations later in the month. I highly recommend you get tickets. Dralion is a mash up of two animals, the Dragon (representing the East) and Lion (representing the West). The entire show covers several acts with representations of the four elements; earth, water, air and fire. I suddenly have the urge to call forth Captain Planet, but maybe later.

I had great seats, not in the front row, but close enough that I could see the full stage clearly. With so much happening on the stage, it was sometimes hard to stay confused on just one area. All the acrobatics were amazing, and trying to focus on the many different acts is stimulating.

One act, Trampoline, was almost mind bending as acrobats jumped from a ledge almost two stories tall on to the trampoline. When they bounced back, they would walk the wall Matrix style. It’s funny, but a lot of the acts reminded me in some way of several video games. Don’t get me wrong, the show itself just lets your mind race in so many different directions.
All the acts were captivating, from balancing, juggling, hoop diving and more. Two acts that I really focused on were the aerial acts. Both Aerial Hoop, Hibana and Ariel Pas De Deux, had performers high in the air that looked surreal. The performers seemed to effortlessly become one with either a hoop or long bands of blue cloth. You couldn’t help but fall into a trance as you watch the performances high above. What really helped me lose myself in the performance was the live music. Every movement, every beat was driven by Eastern rhythms, but also classic rock and even some new age stylings.

Between the action, three Italian clowns managed to keep the crowd laughing at their shenanigans, even involving the crowd at times. The closing act will have you clapping and cheering, especially during their representation of double dutch.

This was a great show with a lot of energy, excitement, and wonder. I highly recommend you get tickets to this show, as you will not regret it. You can go to the Cirque Du Soleil website or Ticket master and get your tickets now!
