Kevin Feige talks Sir Ben Kingsley
Ladies, children, sheep. Some people call me a terrorist, I consider myself a teacher. Lesson number one… Heroes, there is no such thing.
Those few lines spoken by Sir Ben Kingsley have been creating a lot of positive buzz around the net after the trailer release last week. Looks like Sir Ben Kingsley’s performance is creating a lot of positive buzz around the Iron Man 3 set as well. On set, his performance has been so menacing and so dangerous that even the most jaded of crew members are “quieted and riveted”.
Speaking with USA Today, Kevin Feige spoke about Sir Ben Kingley’s performance on set: “On his last take of his first full day as the Mandarin, when they yelled ‘Cut!’ the entire crew burst into applause, spearheaded by Mr. Downey himself, it was pretty amazing to see that.”
Out of all the great performances by the actors in Marvel movies, Kevin Feige says he could only count on one hand how many times something like that has happened on set.
“That’s what you get when you hire Sir Ben Kingsley. He’s so excited about his part and so into this character, and frankly just scaring the heck out of everybody,” Feige says. “They’re like, ‘You’ve broken us out of our skeptical malaise!’ ”
For those that do not know, the Mandarin is Iron Man’s most iconic foe. First appearing in Tales of Suspense #50 in 1964, he is a scientific genius is an ace martial artist, who is well known for wearing ten rings of power on each of his fingers. Each ring contains a separate form of power, ranging from heat blasts to concussive energy beams.
Our new look at The Mandarin
In other Iron Man 3 news, Twitter user Armageddon26 has spotted inside the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly a new still of The Mandarin (seen above). Also in the issue is a detail regarding the villain’s ten rings. While Kevin Feige has confirmed that the alien origins for The Mandarin’s ten rings has been dropped, Entertainment Weekly says the rings “will still be the source of his power.” Whether this means that his rings will be technological devices or if it’ll have any magical effects remain to be seen.
I guess all of us will have to wait until May 3rd, 2013 whether or not this will be the case.
