Dexter Season 7 Episode 4 recap ‘Run’
Posted 10:18 pm on Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012 by Narvin SeegoolamWe left off last week with Deb having to be saved by Dexter from Speltzer in his crazy death maze. Deb is slowing becoming convinced that Dexter is a necessary evil. We start off this week’s episode with Dexter and Masuka going through the mausoleum that Speltzer converted to a shrine. Unfortunately, Speltzer never left any DNA evidence behind to help implicate him. We cut over to Deb falling asleep while taking a bath. As this happens, she enters a dream sequence to where the bath is full of blood and the scene somewhat resembles how Rita died. She also sees Dexter in a tux asking her to be his.
She wakes up from the freakish experience when the water starts overflowing, and wonders what the hell just happened. The next day Deb confronts Dexter on Rita’s death and how she never fit Trinity’s pattern. Dexter reveals to Deb that Rita died because Trinity knew he was after him. Deb then blames Dexter for Rita’s death and questions why he didn’t let the police handle it. She tells him that he should send Harrison away for a little while because Dexter is endangering him (later in the episode). She also goes as far as to question his love for Rita as well as herself.
Dexter takes offense to it and tells Deb that until she caught him the church, she never questioned anything. As they’re talking, Deb gets a call that Speltzer has been caught. We cut to Isaak and the strip club owner talking about who Dexter is and part he has in everything. Isaak then comes to the conclusion that not all of Miami PD knows what happened to Viktor and that Dexter might be one of the few that knows what’s going on. Isaak starts concocting a plan in his head which includes a loyal bartender.
Back at the station, Batista interrogates Speltzer trying to get info, but it’s Deb who gets him to break and confess. We then go to Isaak arriving at the bartender’s house unexpectedly. To throw the police off, he convinces the bartender to take the fall for the murder and in return, Isaak will make sure his family is taken care of. He has the bartender write a suicide note that confesses the murder and then has him shoot himself in the head with the same gun that was used to kill Anderson.
The next day, Hannah stops by the police station on advisement from her lawyer as a show of good faith to try and help Miami PD. She makes small talk with Dexter about her past and he seemed intrigued by her. At the same time, LaGuerta goes to Deb’s office to deliver some bad news. Apparently the arresting officers that took down Speltzer because he never verbally acknowledged the Miranda rights. As a result, the judge threw the case against Speltzer out, letting him walk. This pisses everyone off, but gives Dexter an opportunity to get Speltzer.
Quinn gets a message while in the meeting that the bartender was found dead. As Dexter arrives at the scene, Isaak is waiting in a car to get a good visual on who Dexter is. Inside the house, Dexter is wondering why there was a fall guy for the murder, only because Dexter took care of the real killer which was Viktor. Batista even feels that something is weird going on with the bartender’s “confession.”
Back at Dexter’s apartment, Jaime is getting Harrison prepped to head up to his grandparents house for a few weeks. Later on, Dexter heads to the cemetery to check on Speltzer, who seems to be back at his normal job. Dexter breaks into Speltzer’s RV to check it out and decides it would make a great kill room. He also stumbles upon a bunch of earrings, which are the trophies that Speltzer kept. At that same moment, Speltzer comes back to the RV to find Dexter. They fight inside the RV which results in Dexter getting knocked out.
Dexter then awakens to find himself in a warehouse. He has a note in front of him that says “Run.” It turns out it’s one of Speltzer’s death mazes. Speltzer chases Dexter through the maze, to which Dexter narrowly escapes. Now that Speltzer knows what Dexter looks like, he hasto be more careful. We go to Isaak breaking into Viktor’s apartment that was sealed off by police. There, Isaak goes to a picture and it’s revealed that Viktor is Isaak’s son.
At the funeral for the girl that died in Speltzer’s maze, Deb notices Speltzer hanging around outside. He taunts Deb knowing that she can’t bring him in. Dexter stops by Deb’s place to see how she’s doing, only to be pushed away. Back at the station, Batista still tries to convince Quinn that the bartender’s “suicide” was a setup. Later that night, Dexter is back at the cemetery. This time, he’s using himself as bait for Speltzer. Speltzer sees Dexter walking and thinks he has the drop on him. He tries to follow Dexter and comes upon a note that says “Stay.”
Dexter then sneaks up and puts a shovel to Speltzer’s head. Speltzer then wakes up strapped to a table in the cremation room. Dexter explains to Speltzer that he would normally slice his face with a scalpel and take a drop of blood, but due to circumstances with his sister, he’s over it. He then proceeds to stab Speltzer in the chest with a wooden stake. Dexter also happens to have his box of blood slides with him, and he places it on Speltzers chest and pushes him into the fire.
As Dexter walks outside, Deb pulls up. He is surprised that she even showed up and asks her how she feels. She then says that she’s glad, but what does that mean to her. To which Dexter replies, “human.”
