Sad news for those of you waiting for José Padilha’s Robocop and Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium as both movies is being pushed back several months from their original planned release date. Robocop is being pushed from August 9th, 2013 to February 7th, 2014. This is essentially a ‘no-faith’ move by Sony as you’re moving a movie set during the summer season and then pushing it to a month where movies go to die. This is troubling as it also confirms the fact that the production is under fire with recent rumors that there were problems behind the scenes with the production of Robocop. Another rumor, which could be the case, is that Sony is optioning to converting Robocop to 3D. This was a move that Paramount has done with G.I. Joe: Retaliation as well, which caused for concern on the quality of G.I. Joe as well.

With its August 9th release date vacated, Sony has decided to push Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium from its March 1st, 2013 release date to the now vacated August 9th, 2013 release date. A promising date considering Blomkamp’s first movie District 9 was released around the same time period as well, and we all know how well that turned out. We’ll have more news on both Robocop and Elysium as they come!
