The Big Bang Theory Season 6 Ep 3: “The Higgs Boson Observation” Recap and Review

Hello world! I’m new to the Nerd Reactor Team, so for my first official entry I decided to start it off with a ‘BANG!’ by recapping and reviewing the latest episode of the “The Big Bang Theory”!

In this latest episode of “The Big Bang Theory”, it immediately starts with Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and Howard a.k.a Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) video chatting from the NASA space station. He has clearly started suffering from some wicked cabin fever missing gravity so much that he begs Bernie to “drop something so he can watch it fall.” In writing it looks ridiculous, but Helberg manages to infuse the lines with such wackiness that it is one of the more hilarious parts of the show.

Wolowitz and Bernie having some couple time.

After the opening songs finishes, we are quickly introduced to the bulk of the show. Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) has decided that he—like Higgs (whose particle the episode is named after)—might have written something years ago that may be revolutionary in the world of Physics that will result in him fast-tracking himself to winning a Nobel Prize; therefore, he has been going through years of research journals that he has been keeping since the time he was being potty-trained. When Leonard (John Galecki) refuses to help, and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) doesn’t hold up to Sheldon’s standards, it results in Sheldon turning to everyone’s favorite resource—a grad student setting up the dilemma of this week.

“I’m just a blonde monkey to you, aren’t I?”

Sheldon quickly hires on a very pretty grad student, Alex (Margo Harshman), who looks startlingly like a young Lucy Lawless circa Xena: Warrior Princess. This event leads to Raj (Kunal Nayyar) calling dibs on Alex, and Amy (Mayim Bialik) to grow wary of this unknown female and mark her territory—both figuratively and literally. Veterans of the show will be unsurprised to find that Amy didn’t need to worry at all; instead, Penny finds herself growing jealous of Alex and Leonard’s reaction which only results in good news for Leonard!

“You were right I had nothing to worry about. That skank’s your problem, not mine.”

This episode closes with another video chat between Bernie and Wolowitz, who has been drugged by his fellow astronauts and is now even more hilarious.

“Howie stop that! NASA’s watching this!”

Grade: A-

Quite frankly I’m enjoying the series again. I’m loving the interaction between the girls and the boys, and it’s nice to see some of the old jokes being played on again—such as Raj’s inability to speak to women! Part of me wonders how Sheldon keeps managing to find these hot grad student girls though! Helberg as Wolowitz stole the show for me this episode though, because he played that to a T! It was hilarious to see poor Wolowitz cooped up in the space station, and his ending section was hilarious IMO! It’s also nice to see Penny being jealous and territorial for once, and in a nice way this episode reminded me of the older episodes and the dynamics of the group from season 2 and 3!

So what about you guys? Any favorite jokes, or moments? Was I the only one seeing young Lucy Lawless?
