Max Landis wants to evolve Chronicle 2, FOX doesn’tPosted 9:58 am on Thursday, October 11th, 2012 by John 'Spartan' Nguyen
Max Landis did an excellent job of writing Chronicle. The film was engaging and set the bar for found-footage movies. Not only that, but it was also a great superhero movie too. Now it looks like FOX isn’t too happy with his script for Chronicle 2. His dad, John Landis, explained to audiences at the AMPAS Q&A screening of An American Werewolf in London.
“He wrote a sequel [to Chronicle], and it’s amazing, and the studio read it and said, ‘We want Chronicle again!’ And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution, and they said ‘No, we want that movie again!’ So it’s difficult, we’re dealing with a difficult business.”
Come on, Fox! Let’s not pull a Hangover 2 here. Sure, people loved the whole formula of young teens discovering new powers as we’re experiencing it with them, but we also want to see them move on and expand. That was the issue with Hangover 2. It tried to copy the formula of the first movie, and in turn, many critics and movie goers were turned off by it. But then again, it made bank!
Max Landis responds to his father’s reveal via Twitter:
THANKS DAD REAL COOL.
