Last week, we left off with Dexter confirming with Deb that he is a serial killer. The episode kicks off with that scene and has Deb running from Dexter in disgust and proceeds to puke her guts out. She just can’t seem to get away from serial killers. She breaks down and asks him how long he’s been doing this for. Dexter replies that he’e not only been killing since he was 20, but also that Harry was the one who taught him. Not only that, but that he has a code that he was taught to follow as well.

Even though it’s a lot for her to take in, she agrees to go back to the apartment to talk more. Dexter further explains himself about the dark passenger and that he only kills bad people. At this point, Deb keeps beating herself up on how she never knew. Dexter then asks what will she do, to which she responds with a fist to the face and then leaves. Dexter rethinks things with Harry and tries to make sense of it. Going through some of the things that Deb dug up, Dexter notices the arm from the Ice Truck Killer case and wonders why he has it.

The next day, Deb goes through some of Agent Lundy’s old reports which state that being a killer is an addiction, which sparks something in her mind. It then cuts to Dexter going through the evidence locker looking for the Ice Truck Killer evidence to verify if the arm in his apartment is in fact the real one. As he’s checking through the evidence, Masuka creeps in to see what Dexter is up to. Masuka reveals that his old intern Ryan (hot blonde in Season 6) stole the arm to make some extra cash on the side. He also told Dexter that he had Louis look into it and erase the electronic trail. Dexter then ponders to himself that Louis might have been the buyer and that he might know his secret.

The focus then shifts back to Anderson’s killer. Batista and Quinn state that they’re heading back to the strip club to try and rattle the cage. In the briefing, Deb mentions that a convict killer wants to clear his conscience by helping the cops find the bodies that he hid years ago. Dexter volunteers to help, but Deb chooses Masuka instead. After the briefing, she takes Dexter aside to tell him that he’s an addict and that she wants him to move in with her so that she can help kick the addiction. He’s a bit reluctant, but goes along with it.

Next we see LaGuerta on the phone with an FBI blood lab. They question why she didn’t go through their own lab, but continue anyway. They confirm the blood on the slide that LaGuerta found was in fact Travis’ blood. She then ensures that the lab will keep everything confidential and to send everything directly to her attention. We go back to Batista and Quinn shutting down the strip club again trying to find answers for the death of Anderson and the stripper. They are able to get some info on the strippers boyfriend.

Back at Deb’s place, Dexter is moving in temporarily so that Deb can help keep an eye on him. Not only that, but she plans on them doing everything together…literally everything except for showering. Dexter promises to be honest with Deb from here on out. Harry seems to think that Dexter can’t do it. At dinner, Deb asks what the urge to kill feels like. After a somewhat morbid description, Deb is a bit disturbed, but makes him promise to call her if he ever gets the urge. Dexter obliges, and later on tries to put a plan together to get into Louis’ apartment.

The next day at the police station, Quinn and Batista start interrogating the dead strippers boyfriend. They are able to get some info on Viktor aka the Ukranian. On the other side of the building, Masuka is telling Dexter how much he hates standing around at the dig site trying to find bodies. Debra agrees to let Dexter go by himself, only because she has to look into Viktor the Ukranian. At the dig site, Dexter strikes up a conversation with Randall (killer) and why he had a change of heart. Randall says that it all just finally got to him and he wanted to clear his conscience.

The officers at the dig site decide to call a lunch break, which gives Dexter the perfect opportunity to run over to Louis’ place. While looking around, Dexter comes upon his credit card numbers, to which Louis had cancelled. Dexter also looks through a few videos on Louis’ laptop and finds out how Louis gained control of the software company by planting child porn against the previous owner. Louis comes home and Dexter ambushes him and confronts him about why he’s messing with Dexter’s life. Louis admits that he was mad at Dexter for shooting down his game. Dexter leaves, but not after threatening Louis to never show his face around him ever again.

Dexter goes back to the dig site to find Deb pissed because she didn’t know where he was. After Deb leaves, Dexter starts a conversation with Randall again on how he found peace. Back at the strip club, the cops clear out and the big boss Isaak Sirko (Ray Stevenson) shows up looking for Viktor also. LaGuerta gets a special package from the FBI that contains the blood slides from Dokes case and the new slide she found. She sits there for a bit comparing them both to each other. We go back to Dexter and Debra arriving at his apartment to find Harrison, Jaime and his best buddy Louis. You can tell that Louis is just tempting and baiting Dexter and showing that he won’t stop.

Back at Deb’s place, Dexter and her are eating dinner. When she steps out for a second, he drugs her steak so that she will go into a deep sleep, allowing him to sneak out. He goes to Louis’ apartment to give him a nice surprise, an injection to the neck. As he gets to a secluded spot with Louis in the trunk, he remembers his promise to Deb. He calls Deb to tell her that he might be doing a bad thing. Deb drives out to where Dexter is and he confesses that he drugged her so he could sneak out. After convincing Dexter that the fact he called her is progress, she heads back home. Dexter tosses a still passed out Louis on a bench before leaving.

The next day, Isaak pays a visit to the dead stripper’s boyfriend asking why he quit the club abruptly. Isaak also tricks him into spilling that he spoke with the cops. Isaak then proceeds to kill him by stabbing him in the eye with a screwdriver. Back at the dig site, Dexter and Deb are standing around talking about how Dexter might be taking some steps to becoming normal. She then goes across the street to grab some ice cream for them both. Randall comes over and talks about how happy he was with his ex and that she now views him as nothing but a killer. He then accepts it and tells Dexter that there is one more person to kill. At that moment, he runs into the street to get hit by an 18-wheeler.

Dexter is sprayed with blood on his face and stands there somewhat in awe of what just transpired. He comes to the realization that Randall never changed, he just wanted some ice cream and a few days in the sun. He also didn’t want to live the rest of his life behind bars. The episode ends with Dexter contemplating if he’d ever be able to accept life behind bars.
