NR Podcast: Dredd 3D Review

I’ll admit, I wasn’t too excited about Dredd 3D. For one, Stallone’s Judge Dredd didn’t leave me with a feeling that another Judge Dredd movie needed to be made. Second, the premise, as shown in the Dredd 3D trailers, reminded me of The Raid: Redemption. After watching the movie, I can say that Dredd 3D exceeded my expectations. It’s been a while since we’ve had a good R-rated sci-fi action flick.

Great review guys, that’s pretty much how I thought of it although as a fan of the comic I would maybe give it an A (but that’s just my bias) Urban really nailed the character of Judge Dredd. Bloody great film.

Anybody who’s seen the ’95 film just needs to forget about it, it was never a Judge Dredd film, it was a Stallone film. The reason why Dredd is a gritty film is because grittiness is an aspect of the comics so the film is faithful, very faithful to the source. It’s not a new take as the original character is nailed by Garland & Urban.

As a fan of the comic I can say this is a lot truer to it then the Stallone Turkey. It was nice even the small references such as to “Meat Wagons” and Reysk when it came to dealing with dead bodies. Given that it was filmed on a “low budget” (for a comic adoption) they did a great job, here’s looking forward to a sequel — roll on Judge Death and the gang!
