According to Kotaku and Variety, G4TV is going to be “less geek, more chic”, to quote Variety. This is sad news to some people, but may not come as a surprise to other. I am not surprised that it came to this, especially with popular hosts Olivia Munn and Kevin Periera leaving. It seems like NBCU is going the direction of turning G4TV to GQ, a magazine about the “modern male”. The rebranding will take place sometime next year.

My take on this is G4 had its highs and lows. I was a big fan of G4 when it first hit the air, but as the months rolled on I did not like what they had to offer. Unlike TechTV that preceded it, G4 had nothing to offer to inner geek in me.

Now some of you may be too young to remember, but before G4TV was TechTV. That was a channel dedicated to geeky/nerdy things with shows like ScreenSavers and Call for Help, which turned to The Lab with Leo Laporte. But these were shows ahead of the curve; way before many people even heard of smartphones or had high-speed internet. They were my true introduction to computer IT in which I work in.
