If it’s one thing that actor Michael Emerson is really good at, it’s creeping us out. Even with his new role in Person of Interest, I still don’t fully trust him. It’s no wonder that he has been chosen to voice The Joker in the animated film The Dark Knight Returns: Part 2.
Recently, Emerson talked to TV Guide about bringing new life to the “Clown Prince of Crime.”
“He’s one of those great villains that an actor like me likes to play because he has layers – he has a face for the world and a face for himself. He is, in a way, a villain who is a natural actor. All of that is that is delightful and confounding at the same time.”
If you’re familiar with Michael’s work, you know he usually plays subtle crazy. Michael talks about how playing The Joker has been extremely liberating for him as an actor.
“It’s freeing because of the largeness of it. When he laughs, there’s nothing subdued about it. When he screams in rage, there’s nothing controlled about it. The amp is turned to 11 at all times.”
Some fans maybe sadden that fan favorite Mark Hamill will not reprise the role in the film. Back in May, Hamill calmed fanboy’s fears by saying he’s not done with The Joker. He made a statement saying we would not play the role again after the release of Arkham City.
The Dark Knight Returns: Part 1 is scheduled to be released Sept. 25 on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download.
