Justice League director rumors: No Affleck, David Yates, Wachowskis, and Brett Ratner?!

Over at Warner Bros. the search continues for the director of WB/DC’s biggest potential franchise Justice League. With the success of the Avengers and failure of Green Lantern, Warner Bros is trying to do this right or it risks killing off another beloved DC franchise.

First off, we posted earlier that Ben Affleck has been Warner’s top choice to direct Justice League. Turns out Ben Affleck has reportedly taken himself out of the running for the job. He tells 24 Hours, “I’m not working on the Justice League. One of the problems with entertainment web sites is that they need to fill pages, and that’s how rumours get started. Justice League sounds really exciting, but it’s not something I’m working on.” So scratch Christopher Nolan and Ben Affleck off that list.

Next up, Deadline is reporting that along with Ben Affleck, director David Yates (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) has also been offered the job as well. Unfortunately for you Harry Potter fanatics, David Yates has also passed on the job. Instead, Yates has focused his attention on an upcoming Tarzan movie for Warner Bros.

With three directors out of the running, Warner Bros. are now focusing on The Wachowski Brothers Wachowskis. According to MovieHole, the executives at Warner Bros. are “completely jazzed” about the siblings upcoming movie Cloud Atlas. The executives also love the fact that it’s as much a spectacle as it is a showcase for the immense ensemble involved, which is what the Justice League is all about. Cloud Atlas does look amazing but let’s be honest here, they haven’t done a good movie since The Matrix (some might argue The Matrix Reloaded). Both Matrix Revolutions and Speed Racer are just simply atrocious. We will see though just how much love Cloud Atlas gets when the movie comes out this year.

Lastly, take this with a grain of salt, but word around Warner Bros is that along with the Wachowskis they are also taking a look at Brett Ratner to direct. Superman Super Site is saying that the “…studio is very pleased with the work that Brett [Ratner] has done as a producer and director on past projects. They are now very interested in seeing what he can do with helping finally bring this group of iconic superheroes to the big screen!” Okay, I’m no executive but doesn’t Warner Bros. realize we nerds do not forget bad comic book movies and don’t they realize that Ratner brought us one of the top 5 most godawful comic book movies in the past decade? Do they not realize X-Men: The Last Stand sucks? Considering this is not coming from an industry magazine, consider this choice non-existent (thank god).
