In a perfect world, I would love to visit Middle-earth. Too bad it’s a fictional world created by Tolkien. The closest thing to Middle-earth in our reality happens to be New Zealand, the place where Peter Jackson filmed The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy. Tourism New Zealand just released a commercial to attract Hobbit fans to come travel to the land of Mordor, Gondor, Rohan and etc.

Wait a minute, where’s Gondor? Where’s Mordor? All I’m seeing are happy young people doing things that has no resemblance to life in Middle-earth. Wine tasting, cooking fish at the beach, and swinging on ropes? Argh, give me a commercial where the people are dressed as orcs and hobbits. Show me the tourists practicing with swords and bow and arrows as their tourist guide dresses up like Sauron.

If Tourism New Zealand was promoting the ad to regular people, it’d be okay, but as a fan of The Lord of the Rings, I want to see nerds roleplaying as they fight imaginary orcs. Well, at least we saw a hiking couple visiting Hobbiton near the end. Next commercial, let’s nerd it up some more.
