‘Super’ director James Gunn in talks to direct Guardians of the GalaxyPosted 2:07 pm on Saturday, August 18th, 2012 by Mark Pacis
Marvel may have found their director for their space adventure Guardians of the Galaxy. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that after a lengthy search, Marvel execs have been talking exclusively with James Gunn (Slither, Super). The other candidates were revealed to be Peyton Reed (Bring It On, Yes Man) and Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden (Half Nelson, It’s Kind of a Funny Story). In case talks with Gunn falls through, sources say that Peyton Reed or Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden will be next in line to direct. Sources said that James Gunn’s sensibility to mix comedy, action, and horror is what garnered Marvel’s primary interest in him.
If James Gunn is on-board to direct Guardians of the Galaxy, might I mention that James Gunn and Marvel Studio’s Phase 2 godfather Joss Whedon are both really good friends with Firefly star, Nathan Fillion. It wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination for those that have read Guardians that Guardians’ leader, Star-Lord, is VERY similar to Firefly‘s Captain Malcolm Reynolds. If Fillion is willing to
reprise play the role of Star-Lord, then Guardians of the Galaxy is taking the necessary steps to appease both fanboys and general audience alike. A step in the right direction, if you will. Now all this is my speculation, but it is still a fun idea to think about.
Guardians of the Galaxy is set to be release August 1st, 2014.
