PSO2 prohibiting overseas players in JapanPosted 9:38 am on Wednesday, August 8th, 2012 by Michael Revis
If you’re in NA and you’re anxious to get on PSO2 before it gets released in the west, you’re probably going to have to wait a bit longer. Sega announced that they updated their terms of service to include an item that specifically prohibits overseas players from taking part in the game on JP servers.
While the game is scheduled for release in the west early next year, the move is still kind of baffling, and can largely be seen as the internet equivalent of region locking. As for how they will enforce this new rule, they haven’t said, but they may read your registration info to see what region you signed in under, or scan your connection to see where you’re playing from.
Expect some crafty people to find workarounds eventually, but for the rest of us, we’re just gonna have to continue to wait for Sega to give the west some PSO loving.
