Are you one of the many fans that was livid over some of the bad reviews that came out about The Dark Knight Rises? Well if you were, don’t worry because Christopher Nolan has your back. Yesterday we reported that many fans were a bit more than upset over a few bad reviews that surfaced on Rotten Tomatoes. So upset that the website had to remove the comments section entirely, with promise that it would be back when the movie releases.

Christopher Nolan was at the London premiere of The Dark Knight Rises and explained his standpoint on the reason for the backlash against the negative reviews. “I think the fans are very passionate about these characters the way a lot of people are very passionate. Batman’s been around for over 70 years and there’s a reason for that. He has a huge appeal, so I think you know people certainly respond to the character.” And respond they did Chris.

I for one, definitely agree with his reasoning as well as the fan backlash. Not just because I’m a fan of the series itself, but because like any other Batman fan, you have a sort of personal attachment to the character. It’s like someone talking smack about your best friend or your sibling, you will defend them to the end. What also strikes another chord is what Nolan was able to do with a comic franchise and turn it into an Oscar-worthy series all around. I can’t think of any other geek or nerd franchise that can say that they are on the same level of epic proportions as Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

The Dark Knight Rises flies into theaters on July 20th.
