The final installment of the Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy is just a few days away and the anticipation has reached the boiling point. With emotions running high, a few reviews began to surface online over the weekend.  By Monday, the film had garnered a solid 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. As of this afternoon, a few negative reviews have dropped The Dark Knight Rises approval rating to 86%.

In response to the negative reviews, fans began attacking the reviewers in the comment sections. Forcing Rotten Tomatoes to remove the feature for commenting on reviews from the film’s page.

Rotten Tomatoes head-hacho, Matt Atchity, released an open letter appropriately titled “The Dark Knight Rises: This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things.”

“…if I could ask everyone for one thing, it’s this: don’t be a dick. Even if you think someone else is being a dick. Just take a deep breath, step away from the computer, and maybe go for a walk. Have a smoke if you need one. There are plenty of other things to get angry about, like war, famine, poverty and crime. But not movie reviews.”

Matt also says that the comment section will likely be up again by Thursday or Friday. So fans can discuss the film after seeing it, rather than rage about a review on movie they still haven’t seen. Matt also ensures that he and his team will take this incident in consideration for adopting a Facebook-based commenting system. Allowing users to have no anonymity, much like their featured reviewers.

So thanks to the people that ruined it for everyone else!

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters this Friday!
