Hong Kong actor Andy Lau (Infernal Affairs, House of Flying Daggers) was originally set to play a key scientist in Shane Black’s Iron Man 3. The character is portrayed as a friend of Tony Stark. Now reports are saying that he has turned down the role.

“Chinese media now report that Lau has pulled out of possible involvement due to the birth of his first child with wife Carol Chu on May 9. The Shanghai-based Oriental Morning Post reported that the producers of the film had contacted Lau but were turned down. The frontrunners for the role are now said to be Chinese actors Chen Daoming and Wu Xiubo. One of the film’s producers and CEO of DMG Entertainment Group Dan Mintz apparently told reporters earlier this week that the one of the movie’s Chinese characters will likely be filled by an actor over the age of 40 and strong English skills.”

Well, that looks like a good enough reason to why he is turning down the role. You definitely do not want to piss off the mother of your child. Also being there is pretty important too.
