Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has just announced the New 3DS XL (LL in Japan), a hardware refresh in the works to be released in Japan on July 28th, and the US on August 19th. It features a 4.88 inch top screen and a 4.18 inch bottom touch screen.

The new unit also comes with a 4GB SD card, along with the promise of a slightly longer battery life.

The 3DS XL will use the same AC adapter as the 3DS and the DSI XL. It will be offered in Japan in white, black, silver and black/red. The US version will come in either red or blue.
