New Dredd trailer has people comparing it to The Raid

Already it has people and sites (EW, Movieline, GamenGuide) comparing it to the Indonesian movie, The Raid. I didn’t know that movie had a big following. Dredd is based off the comic book that was created in 1977, and the movie started production before The Raid. What they both have in common is that you have a few law enforcers up against a bunch of thugs inside a building. They’ll have to reach to the top to stop the main boss. A lot of people are praising The Raid, so I’ll definitely have to check out that movie.
The Dredd trailer starts off with a Skream remix of La Roux – “In for the Kill”, and oddly enough it fits. Lena Headey plays the scarred villain who’s in charge of the Slo-Mo drug that’s plaguing Mega City. Karl Urban does his deep manly voice, which I think feels forced (just like Christian Bale’s Batman voice). Here’s hoping that Dredd will make Karl Urban a bigger action star, since Doom was a huge stinker. I have faith though, since he is Eomer, the future king of Rohan.
I’m excited to see another Judge Dredd movie, since I know I am one of the few who actually enjoyed Sylvester Stallone’s Judge Dredd. It had giant robots and Rob Schneider. Okay, so maybe it would have been better if Schneider wasn’t the comedic sidekick.
That clip is just pure awesome. You’re up Karl.
Dredd hits theaters on September 21, 2012.
