Attending the Swedish Affair and getting ready for E3
Posted 10:01 pm on Sunday, June 3rd, 2012 by John 'Spartan' NguyenE3 week has officially started for us today with the Swedish Affair event in Los Angeles. We came there for the Swedish games, but were intrigued by all the creativity from talented Swedish innovators. Okay, you caught me, I did enjoy the free food and drinks.
The event was hosted by the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Los Angeles, Swedish Games Industry, and Media Evolution at the lovely Sowden House (Martin Scorcese’s Aviator was shot here). The place was lovely indeed, with a swimming pool at the center and nice lounge rooms surrounding it.
We met with many different creative minds including Mai-Li Hammargren and her Mutewatch (I was enchanted by her curly hair). This stylish watch has some neat touchscreen features that allow you to change between the clock, alarm, and timer by simply swiping. When the watch is at your side, the display turns off. Flick your wrist and the clock display turns on. Check out the video of Hammargren demonstrating the Mutewatch below.
Next up we met up with ColorCode 3-D. What’s amazing about this company is that it’s able to give us full-color 3-D anywhere, including TV, smartphones, and PCs. With current trends, we’re forced to spend lots of money on 3D television sets and glasses. With the ColorCode 3-D, we can watch movies and look at images in 3D, in full color, with existing technology. If only I can send all of you a special pair of ColorCode 3-D glasses.
We also met up with the guys at Gameport promoting their games including Noumenon Games’ Nimbus+ and their plans to bringing it to the PlayStation Network. We’ll have more info once we get a chance to test out their games.
Also in attendance at the event were Ubisoft Massive (Far Cry 3) and DICE (Mirror’s Edge, Battlefield 3). Swedish actor Peter Stormare (Minority Report) also made an appearance. All this time I thought he was Russian, since he played one in Armageddon. Now that’s acting!
After the event, we made a pit stop near the LA Convention Center and took a pictures of this giant banner of…something. I’m going to assume it’s Bethesda’s Dishonored (Okay, so it’s actually Elder Scrolls Online).
Now tomorrow is going to be the first big day for E3 with the Microsoft press conference, Ubisoft, Sony and more. Stay tuned as we’ll have many E3 news and updates!
