Oh look, Bruce Banner and Hawkeye are working together! Oh that’s right, Edward Norton wasn’t invited to the Avengers… Anyways, The Bourne Legacy finally has its first official trailer and it looks amazing. The story itself picks up from the end of The Bourne Ultimatum and follows Jeremy Renner as an agent from the same program as Jason Bourne. in the fallout from what Bourne has created. Also new to the series is Edward Norton who plays the bad guy and judging from the trailer, he does a good job of it. The only returning character from prior movies is Rachel Weisz’s character, Stephanie Snyder. Matt Damon has not been confirmed at all for this film for even an appearance, but you do see a picture of him in the trailer.
Renner will have some large shoes to fill, as Damon has done a hell of a job in the Bourne series so far. I don’t think it will be much of a problem though, as he as definitely proved himself from his last 2 films, The Avengers and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. The interesting part of the series behind the camera so far is that this will be the 3rd different director. Doug Liman (Go, Mr. and Mrs. Smith) directed The Bourne Identity, which was the first film in the series. Paul Greengrass (United 93) directed the next 2 iterations, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. Tony Gilroy will be taking directing duties this time, but to his credit, he’s written the screenplay for the previous 3 films.
It will be interesting to see how Gilroy does, but just by looking at the trailer, he seems to be hitting the right notes. The Bourne Legacy hits theaters on August 3rd.
