E3 will be safe thanks to the Lakers losing
Posted 1:53 pm on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012 by John 'Spartan' NguyenLet’s face it, a lot of Laker fans are a wild bunch. They’re so wild that it’s tradition that they riot if the Lakers win the NBA Championship. This has happened in 2000, 2009, and 2010.
This is bad news for the video game industry and E3, since it’s tradition for them to throw a big gaming event during the NBA finals at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Downtown LA. Now that the Lakers won’t be getting a chance to play in the NBA Finals, video game developers, publishers, and attendees won’t have to worry about their cars being vandalized or themselves being harassed by Lakers fans.
Just check out the video below to see an example of Los Angeles’ finest at work.
And here we thought video gamers are a bad bunch. When Mass Effect 3 came out and Diablo III servers went down, gamers were furious and ranted online. The video game community is treated like an outcast, as if we’re violent because we play violent games.
The thing is, gamers don’t go out in mass droves to start a riot. The gaming community doesn’t flip or burn cars, abuse innocents or cops. Sure there are some stories about people getting stabbed or killed over video games, but nothing in this scale. Every community has a dark side, but it seems like the gaming community is always getting flack from the government.
In the end, it’s good news for this year’s E3, because many will not have to worry about Lakers fans going crazy.
