Did you hear it? That’s the sound of the E3 hype machine starting up. While most of the time, companies choose to play it coy and simply tease what may occur at E3, Nintendo has just nonchalantly laid out a few statements that may interest gamers. In an interview with Spanish publication El Mundo, Shigeru Miyamoto happily let slip that a new Pikmin would debut at E3 2012. While a bite-sized visual demo of Pikmin was made for 3DS and shown to attendees at E3 2010, it turns out that the next Pikmin game is being developed for Wii U.

Kotaku confirmed that Pikmin would indeed be shown at E3 2012:
“In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new Pikmin game will be shown at the E3 Expo in June. He believes that anyone who has played Pikmin games in the past will enjoy playing.”

In addition to that, Nintendo fans can look forward to a new Super Mario game debuting at E3 2012, again for the Wii U. There’s no word on whether or not it will be a re-introduction of the New Super Mario Bros. Mii game that was playable at E3 2011, so we’ll just have to bide our time until more news squeezes its way out.
