Witcher 2 doesn’t require you to know history of Witcher 1

With Witcher 2 coming soon to Xbox 360, CD Projekt RED revealed that it’s not necessary to know the story of the first Witcher game to enjoy the second. The main character, Geralt, will have a new self-contained story. It still doesn’t hurt to learn about the events of part 1 though, so here’s an animated recap. Major spoilers ahead if you plan to play the first game.

Here’s an animated short that reveals what Witchers are.

For those of you planning on getting the Dark Edition, don’t bother, since it has sold out in the U.S. It contained extra goodies like the official soundtrack CD, a quest handbook and a world map.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition will be available on April 17th for Xbox 360 and PC.

Synopsis – In The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings the player takes the role of Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer, a witcher. Entangled in the political turmoil that engulfed Temeria, Geralt helped quell the rebellion of the Order of the Flaming Rose. Soon after, he saved King Foltest’s life when the monarch was attacked by a witcher-like assassin.
