Devil May Cry HD Collection hits Xbox 360, PS3 today

Dante, the arguably two-time king of the 3D beat-em-up genre is back just in time to reinvigorate the franchise before Capcom’s reboot of the series hits. The collection has been released on Xbox 360 and PS3, and it includes Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2, and Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening Special Edition.

The collection has the usual texture upgrades, widescreen support, trophies/achievements, and a bonus content vault that contains exclusive artwork. It retails for $39.99, and for two great games, that sounds like a decent price. For those of you who don’t know, unfortunately Devil May Cry 2 was an atrocity to the series’ name. The original development team, Team Little Devils, lead by Hideki Kamiya, was not even asked to do the sequel. It just went into production without them.

Even considering number two a total loss, the other two are worth the purchase, even today. Devil May Cry ushered in a new era of 3D beat-em-up greatness, and DMC 3 took that formula and expanded and polished it. DMC was a system-seller back in its heyday, and it’s still worth playing now.
