Here’s the extended Super Bowl tv spot for Disney’s John Carter. This movie is my first anticipated movie of the year. We have Andrew Stanton, the director of Finding Nemo and WALL-E, directing this project. Plus it’s based on the godfather of all sci-fi, the Barsoom series by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

The movie stars John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) as a civil war veteran who gets transported to Mars. Because of the gravity on Mars, he’s able to jump high and also have greater strength (Superman anyone?). John Carter’s story about a man who becomes a sci-fi hero has influenced many sci-fi movies like Star Wars, Avatar, Flash Gordon, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and The Matrix.

“With ‘Avatar,’ I thought, Forget all these chick flicks and do a classic guys’ adventure movie, something in the Edgar Rice Burroughs mold, like John Carter of Mars—a soldier goes to Mars,” James Cameron told the New Yorker (2009).

Disney’s John Carter hits theaters on March 9, 2012.
