The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Creation Kit Coming Soon to Steam (Consoles Too?)

Bethesda just dropped a bomb on us in video form. PC gamers will soon get their hands on the Skyrim Creation Kit which will allow them to mod Skyrim to their liking. There is a scene editor that allows for complex scripting between NPC characters, a dialogue editor, and of course, a map editor.

Even better than it just being a mod tool, the Creation Kit will be integrated into Valve’s Steamworks. Users will be able to make a name, add information, and upload a picture for their mod, and these mods will be searchable on Steam by other users! If you subscribe to a mod, the mod will automatically update every time you boot up Skyrim. The fact that you don’t have to go to different sites and take the time to figure out how to install each mod, but instead just browse around Steam, will make this a much more efficient and enjoyable process.

Oh, and there’s something interesting for the console crowd too. On the official Elder Scrolls community site, Ashley Cheng, the production director, had this to say: “We’re going to keep looking for ways to get mods to more people, and hopefully one day to our console audience.” Do you realize how amazing that would be? In my opinion, the main thing that PC gaming has over consoles is its mod-ability. I hope that one day this happens.

Did you think that Skyrim’s grip on you was going to let up? Don’t look now, because there are hundreds of mods heading your way.
