Oh Warner Bros., when will you learn that some things just shouldn’t be done? Supposedly, the production for the live-action Akira movie was going to begin in late February, early March. That’s not so much anymore. Due to budget problems, script issues and “other concerns,” pre-production in Vancouver has been temporarily (hopefully permanently) shut down.

There have also been previous reports that WB has been trying to lower its budget down from the original $90 million. In regards to the script, it has already been through its fair share of rewrites from David James Kelly and Steve Kloves. I guess that wasn’t enough, as purportedly director Jaume Collet-Serra and producers Andrew Lazar and Jennifer Kiloran Davisson are hiring yet another writer to assist with rewrites. How many times are they going to rewrite this? The original story is just fine as it is.

This is yet another example of how Hollywood can really squeeze the life out of everything. Stay tuned for more updates. Maybe next time it will be that Samuel Jackson has now been worked into the story…
