Samsung Will Finally Give Us Flexible Display Devices in 2012

Earlier this year at CES 2011, Samsung gave us a bit of insight on the future of AMOLED technology and their new flexible displays. Now, almost a year has passed and they have finally made their first announcement that officially brings the flex displays to consumers.

Robert Yi, Head of Investor Relations and Samsung’s Vice President, has recently stated “The flexible display, we are looking to introduce sometime in 2012. The application probably will start from the handset side.” He also went on to further say that “tablets and other mobile devices with flexible displays would follow.”

With Nokia introducing their Kinectic bendable smartphone at Nokia World, it will be interesting to see what Samsung will have to combat against them. Something else to keep an eye on, is that Nokia will be running Windows 7 mobile now on their new phones, so that will be a game changer as well. The Windows 7 mobile platform has not been doing that well in comparison to Apple and Android, so we’ll see if Nokia can help resurrect the Microsoft mobile platform.
