Battlefield 3 Is the Fastest-Selling EA Game In History
Posted 3:05 pm on Monday, October 31st, 2011 by John 'Spartan' NguyenGood news for EA’s Battlefield 3. It has sold 5 million copies globally in its first week, making it the fastest-selling game in EA history. There is no doubt that the people do love their military first-person shooters. Even an iconic figure like Batman couldn’t top Battlefield’s sales, as it was only able to sell only 2 million copies on its first week.
“From Tokyo to Los Angeles, Sydney to London, millions of fans have been playing all weekend long — we are overwhelmed by the global response to Battlefield 3,” said Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President of the EA Games Label. “It is extremely gratifying to deliver an entertainment experience that delights our fans, and to have the opportunity to introduce new people to the franchise. Already, we are seeing unprecedented play times and online activity which is very rewarding. This launch solidifies Battlefield as a leading entertainment brand.”
These are big numbers, but if I add in that last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops sold 5.6 million copies on its first day, it doesn’t sound too impressive anymore. The next Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 3, will be out next week on November 8th, so we’ll see if Modern Warfare 3 can take down Battlefield 3 (which I think it will).
