Kevin Tancharoen Pushing for R-Rating for Mortal Kombat Reboot

After watching what he can do with the Mortal Kombat property, I believe he’s capable of doing a live-action brutal Mortal Kombat film. Some of the episodes from MK: Legacy I wasn’t keen with, but I did enjoy the story of Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Jax, Sonya, Cyrax and Sektor. Mortal Kombat: Rebirth was his best effort by far.

“Up to this point, we’ve only been talking ‘rated R,’” says Tancharoen. “I like realistic takes on things, I like it when it’s a little darker and grittier. And I want the martial arts to feel real as opposed to balletic and super-choreographed. It needs to feel brutal, because that’s the nature of the video game itself.”

Let’s hope he can deliver on not just brutality but a good story and plot.
