Kevin Tancharoen Attached to Direct ‘Mortal Kombat’ Reboot

It looks like it’s all paid off for Kevin Tancharoen. He is now attached to direct the Mortal Kombat reboot.

In the beginning, Tancharoen wanted to direct a true Mortal Kombat movie. We’ve got the PG-13 movies in the past. He wanted to make a violent and bloody Mortal Kombat. The problem is, Tancharoen was known for making musicals, like Fame. To prove that he is capable of adapting the bloody and violent video game, he called on his friends, like Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan, and started work on a demo trailer for the studios called Mortal Kombat: Rebirth. The fan-made trailer got leaked, and soon it became a viral hit on YouTube.

With it being viral and having a lot of fans, Warner Bros. took action and decided to hire him to direct the Mortal Kombat Legacy web series. The series became a hit, and now Warner Bros. and New Line have full confidence that Tancharoen can handle a Mortal Kombat reboot. No story and actors are set yet.

Check out the fan-made trailer that started it all.

Here’s one of my favorite Mortal Kombat Legacy episodes with Cyrax, Sektor and Smoke.
