Today, Star Tours makes its grand return to Disneyland. It has been 24 years, since the original ride first appeared in Tomorrowland at “The Happiest Place on Earth.” Now with its recent huge makeover, the ride has more than 52 possible outcomes.  Nerd Reactor got a chance to take a sneak peek at the new ride.

A large majority of the entrance to the actual ride remains the same. C-3PO and R2-D2 still bicker at the beginning. Most of the video packages have been redone like the entrance video that shows you all of places you can visit through Star Tours. The Droids have all been given a nice makeover but the one thing I wondered was, did they keep any of the stuff from the original ride? I was hoping that at least one of 52 simulated experiences was the from the original. Sadly, a Disneyland employee informed me that the events of the original ride were no longer a part of Star Tours. :(

It seems that C-3PO has taken over the part of the bumbling pilot. So whatever happened to old Captain Rex? Sadly, through our second time around, we found out.

Hidden away in a dark corner, Rex’s RX-24 model is now considered defective. The Droid was originally voiced by none other than Pee-wee Herman himself, Paul Reuben. I wonder if those child pornography charges against his character being excluded from the ride? So far, China and France’s Star Tours are all the original ride. Sadly, the only way you can experience the old Star Tours ride in the US is through Youtube videos.

Rest in Peace Rex. You nearly got us killed, but it was a hell of a ride.
