It’s Official, UFC Is a Monopoly

We pretty much all saw this coming, but now it’s official. The UFC is officially a Monopoly. In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Dana White said “It’s literally official right now. We literally just purchased Strikeforce.” So there you have it. Strikeforce as we know it is pretty much gone. The UFC has purchased the organization and all their fighters’ contracts. There were signs of the organization going under since they kept pushing the date for the heavyweight tournament further and further back until the date was indefinite. At least now we know why.

If you are keeping track, this is the third organization that has been bought by the UFC. The other two were Pride and the WEC.

Dana stated that Coker along with Strikeforce will remain, but most likely will be absorbed by the UFC much like the WEC did. Being a monopoly isn’t all bad for fight fans. We might get to see superfights that otherwise would not happen such as Lesnar vs. Overeem, Fedor vs. Cain etc. Again this is all speculation and more details are being worked out.
