So a House Can Fly with Balloons: Up-inspired House Flies in Real Life

Remember watching the Pixar movie UP and wondered if it was possible to actually make a house fly by using a lot of balloons? Well National Geographic was inspired by the animated movie and decided to make it a reality.

They have recently just finished wrap with a bunch of scientists, engineers, and balloon pilots of their UP-inspired flying house with balloons. The house is 16′ X 16′ and 18′ tall with 300 8′ colored weather balloons. It was field tested on a private airfield east of Los Angeles.

It’ll premiere on National Geographic on a series called How Hard Can it Be? in Fall 2011.
