Tech Review: Imation LINK Transmits Your PC to Your Big-Ass TV Wirelessly

For most of us, our desktop PC or laptop screen is sufficient enough when we surf the net or play PC games up close. But what happens when you’re watching YouTube videos, a Netflix movie, a photo gallery, or just want to show something badass to your friends and family? You’re still stuck with the small screen. With the Imation LINK Wirelesss Audio/Video Extender, your troubles are gone.

Imation’s LINK allows users to transmit video from their PC, Mac or laptop to their TV or projector wirelessly, so that they can watch their favorite videos, look at photos, display their PowerPoint presentation at meetings conveniently. By using a USB transmitter and a receiver that links to the TV or projector using HDMI or VGA, you’re set to view your PC conveniently onto your TV. I have a Samsung 40″ LCD HDTV, and it looks really sharp. The receiver can display up to 720p for video and 1080p for photos.

The thing is really easy to install. Just plug in the USB transmitter to your PC and let it do the installation. After it’s done, plug in the LINK receiver and connect it to your TV and you’re done. You have a choice of extending your PC display, or duplicate the same display.

Not only can you transmit video from PC to TV, but you can also transmit 2 channel audio too. I linked it through my Denon receiver and surround sound and let’s say the audio puts my desktop speakers to shame. Yeah I know, it’s not really a fair comparison.

There are certain issues I had with the distance from the USB transmitter to the LINK receiver however. The distance advertised says up to 30 feet line of site range, I’d say it’s close to about 16 feet line of site range from my experience. Anything longer than that will have video lagging.

This device is just so versatile. You can do your homework, projects on your PC screen while showing off videos from your PC on the TV for others to be entertained. I’d definitely recommend this if you love to show off things on a big screen TV or extend your display to another TV.
