Epic Games’s Unreal Engine 3 heading to the PSP Next Generation Portable

While next month the handheld gaming fans will be anxiously awaiting the arrival of the next step in portable gaming with the Nintendo 3DS, the one thing that can possibly put the 3DS in check is the Playstation’s next portable gaming device code named, the “Next Generation Portable.”

While the portable system lacks the 3D element it features way more being very powerful for a hand console with two control pads, and touch screen capabilities. The NGP will also be able to play and sync with certain Playstation 3 games and will release sometime around the holidays in 2011.

Epic had announced a working relationship with the NGP at the PlayStation®Meeting 2011, as  the Unreal Engine 3 will be used in future titles a first in portable gaming history.

“We were  very proud to be onstage with SCE to give the world just a taste of  what Unreal Engine 3 can do on NGP,” said Mark Rein, vice president of Epic  Games. “NGP raises the bar for the performance of handheld platforms with its multi-core  GPU and shader-based, multi-core CPU. This makes Unreal Engine 3 a particularly  advantageous fit for NGP. Furthermore, multiple UE3 licensees are already  working with NGP, some of which have indicated they intend to release their  games for the platform’s launch.” said Epic’s founder Tim Sweeny. The Unreal Engine 3 has been in gaming since 1998, being on the Xbox, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC and licensed by companies like: Square Enix, Atari, Konami, Warner Bros, and used in titles like Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, Bioshock series, Mass Effect Series and the Gears of War series including Epic’s upcoming Gears of War 3, leads to show the Next Generation Portable is a device to reckon with.

What titles will we see from the Next Generation Portable and Epic Games, E3 will be the time to show and tell and NGP and Gears of War 3 will just amaze.
