Mila Kunis and Brad Pitt Out While Harry Potter Writer In for Akira Movie

Warner Bros. is working on the project to bring the manga/anime Akira to life and it seems that the Akira train is going ahead in full force, but not without some objects blocking its path. According to Vulture, Mila Kunis is walking away from the movie to star opposite James Franco in Raimi’s Oz, The Great and Powerful, the prequel to the classic The Wizard of Oz.

Since Akira is such an expensive movie to make, the studio is trying to get big stars attached, including Brad Pitt to star in the lead role, Kaneda. He passed on it three days ago, and now Warner Bros. has to search again for another big star. Akira director, Albert Hughes, has no say in the matter, because the studio wants a well known actor that will guarantee success for the movie’s high budget.

And now we have Steve Kloves attached to polish the screenplay for Akira. He’s responsible for adapting 7 of the 8 Harry Potter movies for Warner Bros. The latest version of the Akira script was written by Albert Torres, with earlier drafts by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and Gary Whitta.

Now how about a live-action Hollywood Ghost in the Shell movie?
