New Updates for ‘John Carter of Mars’ with WALL-E Director Andrew Stanton

I’m pretty excited about this project for one reason, Andrew Stanton. His live-action debut for the new John Carter of Mars movie is going to be really interesting to say the least. He has directed WALL-E and Finding Nemo, two highly-praised films.

Andrew Stanton is halfway done with principal production, and is already done with principal photography. The second half consists of finishing on the digital principal photography production.

“I’m not in post-production — I’m in digital principal photography now, which goes on for the rest of 2011, so I’m only halfway through the movie,”

“When you’ve made animated movies your whole life, it was pretty exciting to be outside for a day, let alone for months,” said Stanton, a fixture at Pixar. “For as cold and as hot and as hard as it was, which I knew it would be, I was up for it and it was a blast. It was the hardest thing I’ll ever have done, but man, it was a great adventure. It was like sailing across the ocean, you know, everything that goes with that.”

He’s not the only Pixar director doing a live-action movie. Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille) is directing the next Mission Impossible movie. Expect John Carter of Mars to come out in March of 2012.

Taylor Kitsch will be playing John Carter and Lynn Collins will be Dejah Thoris.
