Facebook Facial Recognition To Make Tagging Photos Easier
Posted 2:03 pm on Monday, December 20th, 2010 by Steve AhmadFacial recognition will now be a part of your social network life! Facebook vice president of products, Chris Cox, recently announced the new feature, and let it be known that most of the technology was created in-house, with some outside partners. The news comes near the end of the year, and with Mark Zuckerberg being named Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year”.
Photo’s are a huge social application, and tagging them to friends is just another way to tie the social network knot. Just when you thought you protected yourself with all the updates of privacy settings, this new feature rolls around to finish the year with a smile. When this officially releases, sometime in the next week, you will be given the option to tag those who are already suggested by the facial recognition software kicking in. It will make your tagging of photos less time consuming, but the hours of Facebook time millions of users incur will probably not be affected.
Privacy settings will, of course, give users the option to let this feature be active. A simple click of “Suggest photos of me to friends” feature will toggle the ability on or off.
Are you one of those who just rides the wave, ignoring controversy and fear, or do you relentlessly pursue privacy protection ultimately making you into a digitally social paranoid? I am the ladder of the two: inept digital frontier paranoid!
