The Man Behind Street Fighter, Mega Man, Onimusha & Dead Rising Leaves Capcom Today

Keiji Inafune has been one of the most influential names in video games, especially for Capcom. He’s the man behind Mega Man’s design and production and has worked on other high profile games like Street Fighter, Dead Rising, and Onimusha, which he also designed and produced. After many years, he finally reached the top becoming the head of Capcom’s Research & Development and Online Business and Global Head of Production.

It’s a pretty good job to be able to oversee all those projects and have your take on games and do projects you love to work on. Keiji Inafune or “INFAKING,” as many may know him as, has decided that while this could be a cushy job, it’s not for him. Inafune is grateful but sees the job as a lazy job where his abilities would just go to waste.

“It would probably be good for me to sit gracefully in this seat and become a leading figure in the industry. However, I cannot do this. Settling down means death for a creator. As long as you are a creator, you cannot settle down.” Inafune said there probably won’t be a chance for him to work with Capcom in future, “Capcom must, from here on out, walk without me. I too can not depend on Capcom.”

Inafune had one huge surprise before he left during Comic Con, which was the announcement that Mega Man Legends 3 was being worked on after a 10 year hiatus. This was one of his favorite series in the Mega Man universe and while lackluster in sales, the game was fun and awesome to play. It was also announced that the project would be on the 3DS and would have a community of fans from Japan, US and other regions voting on it.
