Rumor: SOCOM Development Team Making RESIDENT EVIL Game

Capcom has been allowing many outside developers to create its games, and it seems that trend is going to continue. Slant Six Games (SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation for PlayStation 3, and Tactical Strike, Fireteam Bravo 3 for PSP) is the possible developer of a new Resident Evil game, and here are the facts known thus far:

  • The game is currently named Resident Evil: Raccoon City
  • It is an online multiplayer game
  • Slant Six Games wrote on their official site that they’re currently on “an amazing new project”
  • They are working with a “new publishing partner on a world class franchise”
  • “Multiplayer action game” is listed on several current and former employees’ LinkedIn profiles
  • The game is for Xbox 360 and PS3
  • In March 2010, they solicited work for a “Japanese translator/interpreter”

What I’d really like to know is whether or not this is the next main iteration of the Resident Evil series, or simply a game that goes along with the next Resident Evil game (We all know Capcom loves to make side stories). Jun Takeuchi, producer of Resident Evil 5, said, “Personally, I don’t think I’m gonna deal with Resident Evil 6 at all – as far as the series is concerned I’m not planning to return until at least two more Olympics have passed.”

Does this mean that the reigns have been passed on to a non-Capcom development team? Oh, Capcom, what is going on with you these days?

Thanks go out to Kotaku for this interesting rumor
